exercise through a Non-Diet, Intuitive Eating & Movement approach

Discover how to enjoy eating again- no guilt, no food rules, no diets- just...food!

Bottom line...in the long-term, diets don't work. And the research is clear that the negative health effects of chronic dieting, weight yo-yoing and pre-occupation with weight loss take a huge toll on our health- increasing our risk of chronic disease, disordered eating behaviours, body dissatisfaction and a loss of enjoyment in eating.

If you have ever been on a diet, whether it be for weight loss, changing your body shape or for managing a health condition, you would be well aware of the side effects:

  • Feeling unhappy with your body or your

weight because the diet was unsustainable

by the way, the diet failed you, not the other

     way around!)

  • Constantly thinking about food, counting

     calories, and/or weighing yourself

  • Feeling a loss of control when around certain

foods and subsequent feelings of guilt and/or

     anxiety around food

Eating is meant to be an enjoyable experience. The experience of eating satisfies not only our basic need for fuel, but also social connection and pleasure. We are all born with an innate ability to know when we are hungry and what types of food our body needs at any particular time to properly meet it needs. Dieting creates a disconnection from our natural hunger and fullness cues, leading to feelings of guilt, deprivation and loss of control over our food choices, often leading to binge or emotional eating.

The Non-Diet Approach is an evidence-based approach to re-learning how to eat mindfully and intuitively again. Intuitive eating means that you trust your body to tell you when to eat, what to eat and how much to eat (not a meal plan, the clock or food rules). Both of these approaches are suitable for general health and wellbeing as well as for the management of chronic health conditions in combination with tailored Medical Nutrition Therapy advice.

In our consultations, we also help you address the reasons why you eat, working towards developing a different mindset when it comes to the way you think about food and the way you eat. We do this through the use of a combination of mindful eating techniques, health coaching and eating behaviour counselling.

If you have ever struggled with following a meal plan or keeping a food diary, then this approach will likely be a breath of fresh air for you. For those who have preferred to follow meal plans in the past, whilst we do not typically provide meal plans, as these are often just another form of dieting and reinforce restrictive eating behaviours, we will happily provide you with recipes and meal ideas if you feel you need them throughout your intuitive eating journey.
